HB 2531, signed by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, requires the Illinois Department of Transportation to start the prequalification process for entering public-private agreements established in the South Suburban Airport Act.

The Illinois State Senate passed a measure to require the Illinois Department of Transportation to begin the process of engaging private developers with interest in building a cargo airport in the south suburbs, a significant step forward in the effort to build a cargo hub in the area. This legislation passed with bipartisan support in the Illinois House and Senate and now goes to the Governor’s desk for signature.

Six airports have received Airport of the Year awards from the Illinois Department of Transportation, including the Greater Kankakee Airport honored with the General Aviation Airport of the Year Award for airports with a runway greater than 5,000 feet.
