Construction to begin at Interstate 57 and Bourbonnais Parkway interchange
Following is the official news release issued by the Village of Bourbonnais regarding the status of the Bourbonnais Parkway I-57 interchange project:
BOURBONNAIS, IL – July 16, 2015 – After a minor delay by Governor Bruce Rauner, we are pleased to announce construction will be begin for the new Interchange at Interstate 57 and Bourbonnais Parkway. Construction of this $46 million project was awarded to Kankakee Valley Construction Company providing numerous construction jobs to Kankakee County for the next 2-3 years.
Motorists will benefit from easier access to Interstate 57 through a new interchange to be constructed at Bourbonnais Parkway thanks to a joint funding initiative by the Federal Highway Improvement Program and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Interstate 57 is one of Illinois’ main transportation corridors and is used by hundreds of thousands of drivers daily. Greater access to the highway will improve the flow of people, goods and services in Bourbonnais, and all of Kankakee County.
In addition, the construction of this interchange provides an opportunity to create a business/industrial park setting encompassing the entire 1,000 acres of interchange area. The accessibility to the regional transportation network offered by such development would represent a new industrial development and would stimulate economic activity.
The Bourbonnais Parkway Interchange area represents the Kankakee County’s best opportunity for industrial growth and job creation.
The Village would like to thank Congresswomen Robin Kelly, Senator Toi Hutchinson, State Representative, Kate Cloonen, and former State Representative, Lisa Dugan, for their support of this project. Without their assistance, the construction of this project would not be possible.
