$16M River Station Senior Apartment Project Breaks Ground

A key component of the City of Kankakee’s West Downtown District Master Plan, the River Station Senior Apartment complex broke ground in November. A joint effort of the city, Mercy Housing Lakefront, the Kankakee County Housing Development Corporation and Presence St. Mary’s Hospital, the $16 million project aligns afforable living with accessibility and support for healthy aging.

The building will have 70, one-bedroom apartments, with KHDC providing rental assistance for 60% of the households, including 14 units for people with disabilities. With participation from the Kankakee Valley Park District and Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, an enhanced green corridor will be created in the neighborhood surrounding the building site.

Presence St. Mary’s wil provide an 1,800 square foot on-site health and wellness clinic as part of the project offerings. Building amenities will include a community room, library/computer lab, fitness room, in-unit laundry, storage rooms, bike storage, and property management and resident services offices.

McColly Bennett Commercial and Heritage Development Corp. were instrumental in project facilitation and design. Occupancy is expected by April 2017.
