Riverside Gifted Bourbonnais Building

Riverside Healthcare recently received the donation of the former Cigna building adjacent to the healthcare system’s Health Fitness Center at 4882 N. Convent, Bourbonnais.

The building held the Cigna corporation from 2000-2015 where it employed 1,200 people at it’s peak. The insurance company transitioned it’s staff to remote work and eventually vacated the building. Gardant Management Solutions, a management firm for senior living, assisted living and memory care communities, occupied a portion of the building until 2024, when it relocated it’s corporate offices to Kankakee. The building has been vacant since.

“Having recently learned about the donation, we don’t yet have a specific purpose for it, but its location, immediately north of our Bourbonnais campus, provides for natural synergy to the growing services we offer there,” stated Phil Kambic, Riverside Healthcare President and CEO. “In pursuit of our mission to provide high-quality healthcare services for the community, we will be working with our leadership team and board of directors to determine the best use for the property.”

Kambic noted that, as a not-for-profit organization, “Riverside is fortunate to have a history of receiving gifts like this.”

“In 2012, we were given three buildings in the Meadowview Shopping Center in Kankakee. Those buildings have provided space for a number of patient-facing and support services,” Kambic continued. “Currently, we are remodeling a portion of it to expand physical therapy services there.”

Kambic also noted that the community may not be fully aware that there are more than 40 Riverside Healthcare locations throughout Kankakee, Iroquois, Will, and Grundy counties, serving the healthcare needs of individuals and communities across the region.

“We are fortunate to receive gifts like this, which aid in our ability to expand care and accessibility for our community,” added Kambic.
