Kankakee County is rich in cultural attributes that contribute to a high quality of life. There are multiple theater groups, a symphony, numerous art galleries and cultural events. Residents have access to several museums, including a hands-on children’s museum and a planetarium, along with a variety of historic churches, homes and sites, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1900 B. Harley Bradley House. There are a wide range of festivals and other events and several farmers’ markets.
Area park districts offer a wide variety of programs and events. The county has more than 60 outdoor public parks with a range of activities available for families. Perry Farm Park offers 170 acres of dynamic recreation, including natural prairie trails, woods, canyons and Indian Caves for a wonderful day outdoors.
The Kankakee River State Park encompasses both sides of the Kankakee River for 11 miles and consists of approximately 4,000 acres. Since 2016, the entire length of this beautiful river has been designated as a National Water Trail. Anglers, canoeists, hunters, campers, hikers, bicyclers and other outdoor enthusiasts find the park’s recreational opportunities unsurpassed.
Nine golf clubs provide hours of fun golfers of all levels. Ice Valley features an NHL rink, arcade, cafe and party rooms.
