Kankakee County Ranks #5 for Manufacturing Hubs in US Among Small Communities

Kankakee County ranks #5 in the US for manufacturing hubs in small communities, according to Business Facilities Magazine 2022 Metro Rankings Report. The magazine annually recognizes metro areas and cities of all sizes for attracting and retaining businesses from numerous industry sectors.

In 2021 Kankakee County ranked #5 among small manufacturing economies in the US according to AdvisorSmith.

Kankakee County is known for its strength in the manufacturing sector with operations in chemical, biotechnology, food processing, plastics, iron/steel/metal and general manufacturing. The manufacturing industry in Kankakee County currently boasts more than 7,500 positions, with an average wage of $97K. Businesses located in our community – from Fortune 500/Global 500 corporations to startups – export $1.6B annually, and growth is projected to continue over the next five years.

The manufacturing industry plays an integral impact on the Kankakee County community, making up 20% of the county’s economy and accounting for $933.3M in salaries and benefits to local residents. For every 10 jobs in the manufacturing field, an additional three jobs are created here.
