Kankakee Warms Up with Happy Monday Coffee Roasters’ AllCity Blend
Amid the market shock of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic, Kankakee County’s small business community continues to innovate in a push toward recovery. Downtown Kankakee’s Happy Monday Coffee Roasters and local attorney and civic leader Dave Baron launched a creative collaboration March 23 that brings together the craft roaster’s custom Chiapas blend with Baron’s local mapping art.
While timing of the launch was under some debate – given the State of Illinois’ two week shelter in place order – ultimately the team determined that the project’s message of unity, perseverance and place-making was actually quite timely. Noted Baron of the initiative:
“These maps are about community – the roads that connect us, the neighborhoods and the history behind them, the river that sustains us.
“Community is going to become much more important in the coming weeks. That’s particularly so at the local level … Whether we can come together is going to have a big impact on how we get through this, how quickly we rebuild and what we build next.”
