Business Spotlights from Across Kankakee County

Riverside Healthcare

Riverside Medical Center has begun work on a $28M expansion of its behavioral health department, with a particular focus on enhancing its inpatient behavioral health unit. The project follows a recent announcement of a new Immediate Care facility in Bourbonnais, which will operate seven days a week to improve access to convenient care in the region.

As Kankakee County’s largest employer, with nearly 3,000 employees, Riverside Medical Center has consistently invested in the local community through new facilities and expanded healthcare services. Established in 1964, the organization has grown into a 300-bed hospital providing a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care. It is also the region’s only Level II Trauma Center.

Today, Riverside includes more than 200 physicians on staff and serves patients across three counties, reflecting its continued commitment to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the communities it serves.

CSL Behring

At the corner of Kankakee County’s busiest intersection, CSL sits on 150 acres and is the County’s largest manufacturer. The company employs approximately 1,420 people, and with the recent announcement of a $1.5 billion expansion, an additional 300 jobs will be created.

The project includes a new 300,000-square-foot, three-story facility dedicated to producing immunoglobulin therapies. This expansion will enable CSL to bring its full manufacturing process – from plasma collection through filling and packaging – entirely to the United States.

This $1.5 billion investment marks the largest in the State of Illinois in 2026 and builds on a series of major developments in recent years, including a ComEd substation installation in 2024, a plasma site in 2023, a wastewater treatment facility in 2021, and a seven-story building completed in 2014.

Van Drunen Farms

Located in Momence, in eastern Kankakee County is a 7th generation family business known as the world’s leading manufacturer of freeze-dried and drum-dried products. Over the decades, Van Drunen Farms has continued to grow to 900 employees spread across 9 sites in Kankakee County, as well as additional employees around the globe.

Products made by Van Drunen Farms are ingredients in many popular brands including Post, General Mills, McDonalds, Chic-fil-A, Crumble Cookie, Wendy’s, Starbucks and hundreds more.

The company has plans to continue investment in the region and around the world.

Gotion

$2.1 B Capital Investment

The Gotion project was announced in 2023 to retrofit a former Kmart warehouse that had been standing empty for more than a decade. The project is the largest EV battery production investment in Illinois to date, and the most significant manufacturing investment in Illinois in decades.

The global advanced manufacturing company is tasked with energy solutions and focus on manufacturing electric vehicle batteries, energy storage systems and products that serve as a ‘generator’ for personal and home use.

The employee count is projected at 2,600 by 2028.
