A Chicago-based baked goods company will be moving to the nearly 12-acre site of the former Johnsonville Foods location on the north side of Momence.
Mighty Cake Co. is a family-owned wholesale bakery company whose goal is to start production in Momence by late January. The business specializes in premium handmade croissants for retail, food service, and private label partners.
The company has held a pair of job fairs and plans to have 190 people hired for its opening time frame. The ultimate goal is a workforce of 300.
Moving from a 40,000 square-foot site in Chicago to one offering 104,000 provides great opportunity for expansion.
Angela Morrey, President and CEO of the Economic Alliance, shared “Anytime we can have a new employer come to town is a great move, especially one taking over an existing site. This opens a new opportunity. The fact that Mighty Cake sought to relocate here says a lot about Kankakee County. People underestimate what we can do for businesses here.”
