Grant Park has dedicated a refurbished and renovated Hilgert Park. Named for the longest-serving village president, the park had a $600,000 improvement and modernization. The village of Grant Park provided half the funds, and the other half came from an Illinois Department of Natural Resources grant.
The park includes two pickleball courts, a permanent table with checkerboard, added parking, and an improved and modern playground.
Piggush Engineering designed the new park, and R & R Construction was the contractor. Current village president Ben Detloff praised the innovative design, which worked with the history of the park, keeping its original sign and train while adding modern structures and parking.
