Riverside Determines Future of Donated Property

April 24, 2026

Last year, Riverside Healthcare received the donation of the property adjacent to its Health Fitness Center in Bourbonnais, formerly known as the Cigna building.

After extensive evaluation and investment in property cleanup, Riverside has determined the building on the property will be removed. Riverside will repurpose the property with a project to be announced later this year.

“We considered all the ways the building might be salvageable and repurposed for the community,” Riverside Healthcare President & CEO Phil Kambic said.

“Ultimately, however, we determined the cost of remediation was too high. Though the façade appears to be intact, multiple years of non-use, significant water damage, and mold has taken its toll. It is clear that removing the building makes the most sense.”

Village of Bourbonnais Mayor Jeff Keast agreed, “Riverside Healthcare has always been a terrific partner with the Village of Bourbonnais and the community. We see the time and care they took to evaluate this property from every angle. They sought input from us and a variety of experts to make a responsible determination. We look forward to partnering with them for what they come up with next.”

Riverside Healthcare owns and operates more than 40 locations throughout Kankakee, Iroquois, Will, and Grundy counties serving the healthcare needs of individuals and communities across the region.

“As a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization, we continue to appreciate gifts like this which allow us to create new ways to serve our community,” said Kambic.
